This is a talk by Not Vital, an artist working across materials and techniques from site-specific sculpture to architecture and painting. In this talk, Vital will present his sculptural practice, which ranges from the abstract to the figurative, and which often portrays ambiguous narratives that are connected with dreams, memory, and a tendency towards a surreal aesthetic. He will also present another very important aspect of his work called “SCARCH,” a fusion of sculpture and architecture.
Not Vital is a Swiss artist currently based in China, Brazil, and Switzerland. His architectural sculptures can be seen in the Brazilian Amazon, Belgium, Chilean Patagonia, Indonesia, Niger, Switzerland, and the Philippines. His work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennial, Venice, Italy (2001), the Busan Biennial, Busan, South Korea (2014), the Arts Club of Chicago, Chicago, IL (2006), and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China (2011).
